This indigo cloth is nice to put over an armchair or on a dark sofa. The fabric is handwoven from handspun cotton, hence the slightly thicker feel.
In Mali, the pieces of fabric are mainly used for clothing.
Indigo has been culturally and economically significant in Mali for centuries. Today, the synthetic Indigo is mostly used worldwide. Only a few craft groups still work with the natural dye, including this craft cooperative outside Bamako.
